Rob GardnerRob Gardner
Over a career that spans thirty years, documentary film producer, director and writer Robert Gardner has been nominated for an Academy Award, won three National Emmy Awards, four regional Emmys, a duPont Columbia award, from Columbia University for excellence in broadcast journalism, American Association for the Advancement of Science; Science Journalism Award for Television and a variety of special awards.

His production company, Gardner Films has produced for commercial and public television in the United States and internationally for over twenty years. He is a member of the Director’s Guild and the Writer’s Guild of America, and has lectured on non-fiction television at Johns Hopkins University, Goucher College, The American Film Institute, The American University, and Wesleyan University.

He makes a specialty of multi-hour, event programming, using feature film-style re-enactments of very high production quality. His productions show the great variety available now in documentary storytelling—in science, history, adventure and human issues.

Char GardnerChar Gardner
After spending over 17 years working as a teacher and artist, Char Gardner joined the family business full-time in 1990. As the company’s producer and production manager, she has traveled to Antarctica, Iran, Lithuania, and countless other far-flung locales. In 2006, she produced both the extensive interviews and the location shoots for the 2-hour PBS special, Cities of Light: The Rise and Fall of Islamic Spain—and served as production photographer for this and other documentaries, such as The History Channel’s Barbarians and Barbarians II. Most recently, she wrapped production on the 13-hour series, Rome: Rise and Fall of an Empire, soon to be airing on The History Channel. She lives with her dog, Lefty, and her husband of 40 years, in Baltimore.

Carrie GardnerCarrie Gardner
Carrie Rice Gardner grew up in rural Virginia, and then Washington, D.C. with her family of filmmakers. She received her B.A. in Creative Writing and Religion from Oberlin College, and her M.F.A in English Language and Literature from Cornell University. She began working for Gardner Films in 2004 doing research for the 2-hour History Channel special, The Life of Leonardo Da Vinci, as well as the 4-hour series Barbarians II, on which she was also Associate Producer. She researched and wrote the script for the 2-hour PBS special, Cities of Light: The Rise and Fall of Islamic Spain, which aired in August 2007, and was head writer for the 13-hour series, Rome: Rise and Fall of an Empire, soon to be airing on The History Channel. She lives with her husband, and their daughter, Tully, in Baltimore.
